I absolutely agree, both as a Sprint Monthly Plan user and as a Systems Interaction Design Analyst. (But do't hold your breath. The Programmers Union won't let go until they are driven out and the Boss won't drive them out until the Customers "prove" to him that he isn't getting "free design" from the programmers.)

Dear uidesign.net,

Congratulations on your timely article.

We are currently working on developing a web-based application that uses a partner's legacy system for the back end. We have had to make huge accomodations for the inflexibilities in their system, but I'm pleased to report that through the use of extensive front-end scripting, we are able to produce the interactions/functionality that are lacking in the back end. Granted, while the optimal situation is building the entire app from the ground up, we're achieving an acceptable result by combining their existing back end and our front end. By doing this, we're able to get this product to market quickly (6 weeks). So please tell your users not to abandon hope! Yes, the dinosaurs do need to go to pasture, but there also appears to be room for a transitional period as well.
