12 Future Predictions
Not everyone liked the predictions

Hi David,

I was perusing your predictions page this morning. Very interesting.

A couple of points: Prediction 4 Social Interaction will become common place on-line and most people, will meet and chat up their mates in a virtual environment first.

Let's not loose our humanity in all this. There is so much more than is gleaned from meeting somebody face to face that on-line meetings will take a very long time to convey. There is this notion through all the on-line buzz that if you visit a web page on Tibet, then you know Tibet. Such a misconception is dangerous. Of course this is just a continuation of the belief that you can know something by watching a documentary on it. Any representation of something, however good, is just that, a representation. Of course, some information is better than no information. We just want to make sure that we don't think that once we meet someone online, that we know all there is to know about them.

Regards,

Paul Provost

"Scares me to death."

Hi David,

Take it easy! Human will never be able to handle all this information's. Many information will be lost in the same old way like the information's about the nubic empire (Central Africa) or the well known tower of babel.

Gruss aus Dresden,

Gunter.

PS: One big danger really still exists: Machine will decide over humans. Here we need a credo like in the medic aid.

Hi Gunter,

It occurs to me that the literal nature of the German language may have encouraged you to take me a little too seriously!

Thanks for you note.

David
