"Good Interaction Design is all about behaviour, its more than simply visual communication of hierarchical information."

uidesign.net

uidesign.net was founded by David Anderson, originally as a personal site to publish a few White Papers. Some former colleagues asked him to write up some material on UI and publish it on the web, so that it didn't just get lost in their memories. Somehow it turned into something greater. Something better. Something much more time consuming.

The Kansas City Experience

David has recently joined the User Experience Group of a major wireless internet player based in Kansas City as Interaction Designer, where he is involved in developing leading edge solutions and techniques for the information age user experience with wireless technology.

Education

He has a degree in Electronics and Computing from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. He graduated in 1991 with honours and specialised in Control Engineering.

Past Life

Previously his mis-spent youth was idled away as a computer games author. He wrote a lot of well known games for the Sinclair Spectrum and later the Amstrad CPC computers. He learned an appreciation for how to write software that people like, people can use and with a very low bug count. It was a good apprenticeship.

The World of Spectrum website and the Spectrum FAQ details his career.

After Graduation

Since then, he has had a number of jobs including Development Manager at Rombo, a video digitizer startup responsible for products such as the Vidi-Amiga 24, and CTO at a startup called MDi Systems, now Peopledoc. He designed a bunch of cool image processing products for vertical markets and something they still sell but its changed a lot, called EasiFile. After he fell out with the Vulture Capitalists, he joined IBM as a contractor and they tought him about BIG projects and proper quality processes.

In recent years he has held design and architecture positions with United Overseas Bank in Singapore and ebeon.com, in Dublin, Ireland. Most recentlyt he has been involved in WAP services design for an Irving, Tx based company.

Interaction Design

About Interaction Design, David says, "I know what I know from a combination of God given talent, experience from doing it for over 15 years and from reading a lot of books. Even those early games were User Friendly and I'm still proud of a lot of that early work."

Home Life

David lives with wife japanese Mikiko and their Belgian Sheepdog, Jack. The Anderson family are in a transition phase moving from Plano, Texas to Overland Park, Kansas. When not producing this website, David enjoys Mountain Biking and learning Japanese. He can also been seen in the local park playing "keep up" with a Soccer ball. "Strange Foreigner" as they say in Japan.
