Here are
some of the more common requests to the editor at uidesign.net...
Q. Can
you explain Modal vs. A-Modal?
There
is continued demand for this topic. However, it is one which has been
covered many times before by other people. I may get around to a full
article on this topic but it never seems to happen as there is always
interesting new stuff to write about.
As they
say at Prime Ministers questions, "I would refer the honourable
gentleman to my answer from earlier". See
Letters...
However,
a far better explanation of it all is given in Jef Raskin's book, The
Humane Interface. See Review...
Q. Do
you make any money from uidesign.net?
No. I
just do it for the hell of it. Any revenues from the Amazon affiliate
connection go to likk.net to cover overheads.
Q. Why
is the Site Design the way it is?
There
is no simple answer to this. The reason d'etre for the site design is
given in a series of White Papers starting with Requirements.
See the side bar for brief details of who was involved in the design.
Q. Is
the source code for any of your examples available?
Generally
not. Often my published work is based on experience gained writing commercial
products which cannot be distributed. This may change in the future.
Q. We
have a vacancy for a Human Factors Engineer, can you help us find someone?
Probably
not. There is a limited number of people I know who do this kind of
stuff and they are all busy.
Q. Can
you advertise our vacancy on your site or on your mailing list?
We have
been experimenting with job advertising. The problem is finding a suitable
working model for the business. Maintaining job advertising is a time
consuming business.
There
will be no misuse of the mailing list. The uinews list is for site update
notification and won't be used for job advertising. However, job advertising
on the site is a valuable service for the highly targeted audience.
If you
would like to discuss this further write to the editor@uidesign.net
Q.
Can you review my book?
Probably!
However, time available to review books is now very limited. It had
better be something leading edge and exciting, not just another book
about GUI Guidelines.
Q. Are
you available for consultancy?
uidesign.net
does not operate a consultancy business. It is purely a webzine provided
free for the Interaction Design community.
