Dear David,

I've read your paper "user interface analysis" with great interest, because it fits perfectly to a project I am currently working in. Of course, the really hitting point - how to translate the results of the analysis strategies into interface widgets and UI design - is still open, but promised for a later publication, I know ;-).

Do you have already some drafts of the intended paper? Or can you refer to another source (web link) where some of these questions are answered?

Sincerely

UIDesign.net reply ...

Hi Susanne,

I hope that this letter has been overtaken by events. I have now published a couple of the patterns. There will be more to come later.

I got rather caught up in writing contributions for a book. It started as a small job and grew into a much bigger one.

As you may guess, I always have new papers in draft form. Unfortunately these are often on paper and not in electronic form. I prefer to work on paper first. I am always looking for pre-publication reviewer and I would be happy for you to volunteer :-)

I hope that you liked the Chessboard pattern article and you will find more of them useful in future.

You are, of course, quite correct. The real meat is "how to take analysis and turn it into a design". I don't believe that any author has adequately answered this yet. I hope to plug this gap with many more white papers of the coming months and years.

Lastly, I take you point about the site design. As you may have noticed the site design is subtlely changing. This is happening as I learn more about website design and more about what the visitors want to do. The site is changing to one which is optimised for finding information particularly for those who simply want to find what is new in the latest edition. The menu bar along the top remains for those who simply want to surf through.

Lookout for a radical redesign of the site early next year.

Regards,
